What we collect

Your name, email, username and password (stored as a bcrypt hash — we never see the password itself); your chosen interests and narration style; the episodes you generate, the questions you ask mid-episode, quiz answers, and listening activity (which days you listened and roughly how long). We also keep basic, privacy-preserving usage counts — which pages are visited and which website referred you — with no personal data attached. No advertising trackers, no cross-site tracking, no fingerprinting.

How it's used

To make the product work: your topics and questions are sent to AI providers to write and narrate episodes, your interests personalize suggestions, and your listening history powers streaks, recaps and recommendations. Your data is never sold and never used for advertising. Emails are sent only for account needs (welcome, password reset) and, if you were active that week, an optional weekly digest.

Who else sees data

Episode generation sends your requested topics and questions (not your name or email) to Anthropic and/or OpenAI, and spoken text to the voice provider your plan uses (OpenAI or ElevenLabs). Transactional email goes through Resend. If you subscribe, Stripe handles the payment — your card details go straight to Stripe and never reach our servers. If you sign in with Google, Google provides your name, email and profile photo to create or access your account. The server runs on DigitalOcean. Each processes data under its own privacy terms; none of them receive your Historai password.

Cookies

At most two: an httpOnly session token that keeps you signed in for 30 days, and — only during Google sign-in — a short-lived security cookie discarded the moment you're signed in. No third-party or advertising cookies of any kind.

Sharing you control

Episodes are private to your library unless you publish one to the Community or create a share link — both are explicit actions you can undo. Your public shelf at /u/your-username shows only episodes you chose to publish.

Retention & deletion

Your data is kept while your account exists, plus routine backups of the database kept for a few weeks. To delete your account and its episodes, contact the operator at yevplaksienko@gmail.com — deletion is honored within 30 days, including from backups as they rotate out.
